Frequently Asked Questions
Everyone needs a little help from time to time.
Here’s what we’re usually asked most.
How do I open an account?
There are two ways to open an account:
- Apply online using our online application.
- Apply offline if you prefer to apply using paper forms, or if you want to open a TFSA, locked-in account, RRIF, RESP, corporate or investment club account, apply manually using printed forms.
I already have an account and want to add an RSP, TFSA, RESP or another account type. What do I do?
You’ll need to complete a new application. When you are logged into Credential Direct, select the “Open a New Account” link under Accounts. This will save you from having to re-enter some information. If we’ve already cleared a cheque in your name, and the ID we have on file has not expired, there’s no need to resend these items.
How do I transfer my account from another brokerage firm?
Simply complete and mail a Transfer Authorization Registered form if it is a registered account such as an RRSP, RRIF, or TFSA. Or, if you have a non-registered trading account, complete and mail in a Transfer Authorization form. You must include a photocopy of your most recent account statement from the delivering institution. We will do the rest! We'll also cover up to $150 of the transfer fees your brokerage charges when you open and transfer your account of $25,000 or more to Credential Direct. Learn more.
Why won’t my eServices documents open?
If nothing is opening, chances are you have a pop‐up blocker on your browser. You’ll need to disable it in order to view documents. Hint: Google search “Pop‐up Blocker.”
Can I move stocks from my non-registered trading account into my TFSA or into another registered account?
